"No" to buying a Season Pass for any newly released game. Not a revolutionary idea, I know, but after seeing the price for the Batman: Arkham Knight Season Pass ($40!!!) and Warner Bros/Rocksteady's plan for upcoming content (a few extra missions, character skins and racetracks), I'm finding it harder and harder to justify spending that kind of cash on something so unreliable.
If the latest piece of DLC from Rocksteady is anything to go by, the extremely short "A Matter of Family" (90 minutes by the most generous accounts), the "six months" of planned content is not going to be worth anywhere near the $40 price tag.
Rocksteady is also delaying access to the Arkham Knight DLC by a week unless you have the season pass. That means if you wish buy the DLC separately to avoid paying $40 upfront, you constantly be a week behind. Frankly, I really don't like that kind of shakedown as it really only punishes those who can't or won't spend their money upfront.
Season Passes aren't going anywhere anytime soon, they're still proving to be extremely lucrative for the companies that employ them. For those of us who recognize just how shady of a business practice they are we can vote with our wallets and forgo purchasing them.
I for one won't be purchasing the Season Pass or any of the DLC for Batman: Arkham Knight. And though this bothers me (I really did want to play as Batgirl) I refuse to reward Rocksteady for selling DLC in such a manner.
Until next time,
Chris Conway
